Angela Bassett and Austin Butler hold hands after Oscars losses

Neither Angela Bassett nor Austin Butler “worked it” β but at least they had each other at the Oscars 2023.
Bassett, 64, and Butler, 31, both lost their nominations at the 95th Academy Awards ceremony on Sunday night – and now a touching video of the two holding hands has gone viral.
Bassett was nominated for an Oscar for best supporting actress for her role in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” which she lost to Jamie Lee Curtis, 64, for “Everything Everywhere All at Eight.”
Meanwhile, Butler was nominated for Best Actor for his portrayal of Elvis Presley in the Baz Luhrmann biopic.
The “Elvis” star lost to Brendan Fraser (“The Whale”) in what was widely considered a neck-and-neck race, with the two plus Colin Farrell (“Inshirin’s Banshees”) leading the way. .
In a sweet moment captured on video, Bassett can be seen sitting next to Butler and holding his hand as it came time for the presenters to announce the winner of the Best Actor nod.
The clip was Posted on Twitter “Angela Bassett holding Austin Butler’s hand as he panics…exactly the woman I imagined,” captioned by one fan.
As of Monday morning, it had received more than 321,000 views.
Fans captured the heartwarming moment on video which they loved.
“Now they both know what it feels like to throw yourself into a great role, kill it … and then lose the Oscar,” One person wrote.

Both Bassett and Butler were barred from the 2023 Oscars.
“Elvis” lost in all eight categories it was nominated for, going home without a nomination.

Although Curtis won for Best Supporting Actress at the SAG Awards last week, Bassett snagged the Golden Globe Award for Supporting Actress and many thought she would get an Oscar nod for her performance.
Bassett caused some drama on Twitter when she didn’t stand up or show up for Curtis after her loss.
