He has been summoned for questioning tomorrow, March 9.
The development comes days after a Hyderabad-based chartered accountant Buchibabu Gorantla – believed to be Kavita’s former auditor – was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with the same case.
The CBI said in a statement on Wednesday (February 8) that the accused CA has been arrested for his alleged role in formulating and implementing the Delhi Excise Policy and giving undue benefits to Hyderabad-based wholesale and retail licensees and their beneficial owners.
The CBI said that the accused will be produced in the court today. The excise policy was passed by the Delhi Cabinet headed by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in 2021 in the midst of the deadly Delta Covid-19 pandemic.

The Delhi government’s version is that the policy was designed to ensure optimal revenue generation and eliminate the sale of spurious liquor or non-duty paid liquor in Delhi, as well as improve the consumer experience. The inquiry was conducted keeping in mind the report of the Chief Secretary to Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena recommending a CBI probe into the matter.
Following the LG’s recommendation, the Office of the Assistant Commissioner of Economic Offenses Wing (EOW) of Delhi Police has issued a notice to the Commissioner of Excise, Delhi asking him to provide all the documents related to the award of liquor license under the new excise policy.
Also, former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia was arrested in connection with the alleged excise policy scam.
