Dhaka: Explosion at seven-storey building; eight killed, over hundred injured

At least eight people were killed and over 100 injured in an explosion in a seven-storey building here on Tuesday. Bangladeshcapital of DhakaThe police said.
Five fire fighting units were rushed to the scene after the explosion, which occurred at 4:50 pm (local time), the BDNews24 news portal reported, citing the fire service control room.
The cause of the explosion was not immediately known.
DMCH police station inspector Bachu Mia said that the injured were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. He added that all of them are undergoing treatment at the hospital’s emergency unit.

The ground floor of the building houses several stores of sanitary products and a branch of BRAC Bank was located in the adjacent building.
According to reports, the blast shattered the glass walls of the bank and also damaged a bus parked on the opposite side of the road.
