Maharashtra: Man gets six months of rigorous imprisonment for sexual harassment

A court in Maharashtraof Thane The district has sentenced a chairman of a business premises to six months rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting a female employee.

First Class Judicial Magistrate PI Suryavanshi convicted Vilas Jayaram Pawar (52), chairman of Eternity Commercial Premises CHS, of offenses punishable under Section 354 (A) (sexual harassment) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

A copy of the order passed on February 24 was made available on Monday.

According to the prosecution, the woman started working at the commercial premises as an administrative staff in December, 2019. At first the accused treated her well and when he came to know that she was separated from her husband, he started harassing her mentally.

The accused used to invite the woman to his cabin and make obscene comments. He threatened to shoot her when she tried to leave the cabin.

The accused touched the woman inappropriately and threatened to harm her family, after which she approached the police, it said.
The court observed that the offense was serious and the accused was in a position where he exerted pressure on his employee.
