New Jersey home of Macy’s heir Herbert Straus lists for sale

A New Jersey home built in the 1920s for Macy’s heir Herbert Strauss was listed for $1.3 million — but the offer didn’t last long for sale.
An offer has been made and the spread is currently under contract with a new owner for the first time since 1953, the Post has learned.
Strauss’ father, Macy’s co-owner and US congressman Isidore Strauss, died on the Titanic with his wife, Ida, who refused to sit in a lifeboat to be by her husband’s side as the ship sank.
Originally built on 143 acres, the estate – located in Middletown – has been converted into a unique dairy barn.
Now standing on 13 acres, the property, known as Cobble Close Farm, features four private residences in the French Norman style built with materials flown in from Europe – including stucco and ceramic tile.
The property is surrounded by fountains, gardens, a pool and lawns surrounded by Greco-Roman sculptures and an orangery.

Spread over 2,800 square feet, the dairy barn has a solarium, a parlor, a dining room and adjoining three-bedroom apartments.
In all properties, the offer is spread over 4,950 sq.ft.
Other features include a high-ceilinged great room with exposed beams, three fireplaces, two garages, a finished basement, and three private and walled gardens.

The living room overlooks the cobbled courtyard.
Meanwhile, the primary bedroom has its own walled patio, and comes with a fountain and lounge chairs.
On one side of the estate is Navesink Country Club. On the other side are horse stables and pastures for trail riding.
According to List, the property has been featured in a number of films, and has appeared in several advertisements including for Brooks Brothers, Victoria’s Secret, and fashion magazines such as Vogue, List notes.
“I am very excited to bring such a unique piece of history to the market,” listing agent Kathryn Raftery of Resources Real Estate said in a statement. “This is a truly rare opportunity – the setting and architecture is something that must be seen to be fully appreciated.”
“The property is ‘farm accessed’ and generates income from the sale of agricultural produce. In addition, Navasink Country Club receives additional income from leasing the property,” the listing added.
The house is a 10-minute drive to some major beaches.
