Noida: Man arrested for setting wife on fire

The Noida Police have arrested a 33-year-old man for allegedly setting his drunken wife on fire after an argument, officials said Monday. Police said the couple was married 11 years ago and have two children. “Yadav is an alcoholic and used to have frequent fights with his wife, who objected to his frequent drinking,” said a police officer.
On the night of March 2, there was an argument between husband and wife regarding this matter. Vinita doused herself in kerosene and Yadav lit a matchstick and threw it at her, setting the woman on fire, the official said.

“Hearing her screams, some people in the vicinity gathered and helped to take the woman to a nearby hospital and she was eventually referred to Safdarjung Hospital. Delhiwhere he is undergoing treatment with serious injuries,” the official added.
The woman’s brother said in his complaint that Yadav’s drinking habit led to frequent quarrels between the couple, police said.
An FIR has been registered under sections 307 (attempt to murder) and 504 (insult to breach of peace) of the Indian Penal Code and the accused, who was absconding since the incident, was arrested on Sunday night, they said.
