Ohio family killed in murder-suicide ahead of being evicted

An Ohio woman shot and killed her husband, son and father and critically wounded her daughter before turning the gun on herself after police filed family eviction papers on their foreclosed home, authorities said. arrived to serve, officials said.
Theresa Kane, 46, shot her husband, Steven Kane, 50; their son, Ethan Kane, 13; and his father, William Felton, 74, Monday at the family’s home in Ohio Township, the Clermont County Sheriff’s Office said.
The mother also shot her 20-year-old daughter, Samantha Cain, who is critically injured.
Law enforcement arriving at the home to serve the family with an eviction notice heard several shots fired from inside the residence.
Officers shot and killed four people and found a fifth victim, later identified as Samantha Kane, who was still alive.
Sheriff Steve Leahy said Thursday that the eviction was the result of a long history of financial problems – which Theresa Kane hid from her family members. According to WXIX.
Detectives found a .38-caliber revolver they believe Kane used to kill her husband, which was found on a downstairs couch.
The rest of the family, as well as Ken himself, were found upstairs.
Investigators said the victims were awake when they were killed and likely knew what was happening. Authorities also believe that she was murdered minutes before the police arrived at the house.

“You would think there would be resources for someone like them, but I think he kept it a very close secret. Hopefully, Samantha will be fine and can help fill some voids,” Leahy said.
A relative indicated Thursday that Samantha Kane is currently in a coma, but doctors have given her a good chance of survival.
The tragedy has shaken the New Richmond school district, where both of Kane’s children attended school.

“We are shocked and saddened by the loss of Ethan Kane,” Superintendent Tracy Miller wrote in a statement posted on the school district’s website. Ethan was loved by students and staff alike and his loss has left a huge hole in the heart of our district and our community. “
“We ask that you also keep Ethan’s sister, Samantha Kane, a recent graduate of New Richmond High School, in your thoughts. The entire New Richmond community stands behind him in this fight,” the statement continued.
