Thane: Court grants bail to man booked for culpable homicide

A court in Maharashtra’s Thane has granted bail to a Navi Mumbai man charged with murder on charges of culpable homicide, saying “pre-trial detention should not be a pre-trial punishment”.
Thane Additional Sessions Judge Rachna Tehra recently granted bail to the accused arrested in Rabale on October 27, 2022.

The incident took place during a drunken brawl outside a shop when the accused allegedly assaulted a 20-year-old man, leading to his death, the prosecution said.
“Considering the facts of the case, and taking into account the counter-arguments made at the bar, it appears that the accused/applicant is in custody from October 27, 2022. Bail is the rule. Prison is an exception. There must be a pre-trial detention. There is no pretrial punishment,” the judge noted in the order.
