WPL 2023: Powered by Kapp and Shafali, Delhi Capitals thrash Gujarat Giants by 10 wickets

Shefali Verma and Kaap Marijane powered Delhi Capitals to a comfortable 10-wicket win against Gujarat Giants on Saturday. In the 9th match of the Women’s Premier League, Delhi restricted Gujarat to just 105/9, with Kaap taking 5 wickets at an economy of just 3.80. When it came to chasing the target, Meg Lanning and Shefali completed it in just 7.1 overs with Shefali recording the second fastest half-century in the WPL.
Delhi maintained dominance from the start
Delhi Capitals maintained their dominance in the game from the start. Batting first, Gujarat Giants lost their first wicket in the very first over. After this, wickets started falling one by one in almost every over. The team lost 6 wickets for 33 runs in 7 overs. Kim Garth scored the most runs (32) for Gujarat. Apart from that, Harleen Deol scored 20 runs and Georgia Wareham scored 22 runs. The team somehow crossed the mark of 100 runs in the last over. By the end of 20 overs, the team could score only 105 runs. Marizan Cup from Delhi took 5 wickets for 15 runs in 4 overs.
Shefali’s impressive hammer
Delhi Capitals were given a target of just 106 runs to win the match. Chasing the target, the team’s openers Shefali Verma and Meg Lanning scored 107 runs in just 7.1 overs. Shefali completed his half century in just 19 balls. He ended the innings with 76 runs off just 28 balls. Meanwhile, his strike rate was 271.43. He hit a total of 10 fours and 5 long sixes. Apart from Shefali, captain Lanning scored 21 runs off 15 balls. After the victory in this match, the net run rate of the Delhi team has increased. Delhi is currently on the second place in the points table with 6 points.
Delhi Capitals’ next match will be against Royal Challengers Bangalore on March 13. On the other hand, Gujarat Giants will face Mumbai Indians on March 14.
